DRESDEN, TEXAS. Dresden is at the junction of Farm roads 744 and 55, fifteen miles west of Corsicana in west central Navarro County. Jacob Hartzell had a trading post as early as 1836 near the present town site. He traded mainly with the Indians. Ethan Melton moved to the area in the 1840s and established a general store where many of the early settlers received their mail. The early site was known as Spanky, but when the regular post office was established in 1846, the name was registered as Melton. It was the first post office in the county. In 1852 the name was changed to Dresden. Postal service was discontinued in 1907. Near the store there was a campground where settlers stayed until their houses were built. The first county elections were held there on July 13, 1846. A three-acre townsite was set aside in March 1847 with Jacob Hartzell, Ethan Melton, and Henry Cook as trustees. County records show the post office name as Richland in 1849; the office was moved to Hartzell's store in the new settlement. In the 1850s a Methodist church was established. In 1872 a two-story building was constructed a mile northeast of town to house Dresden College. In 1896 the community had a population of 200, a high school, a bank, a general store, a cotton gin, and a gristmill. In 1906 the school had two teachers and fifty-nine students. The decision in the late nineteenth century to run the railroad track through Corsicana ended Dresden's prominence in the county. In 1939 the population of the town was estimated to be 127. In 1959 and 1990 it was an estimated twenty-five.

Consequently, certain portions of the brain were dying, and that was why she could not function properly. I was Mother's legal guardian, court appointed, for the last ten years of her life. Tribute to her mother, written by Kathie Lent Lillie:
Doris Mozelle Lent - May21 1917 - December 15, 2010Doris Mozelle Presley was born in Fort Worth, Texas. She was the seventh of nine children. Doris's family moved from Texas to Pasadena California during the depression when she was twelve. At twelve she began attending the Four Square Church in Pasadena where she accepted Christ as her savior.
In 1937, she married Bill Lent. They started out in their first little house in Pasadena California where Martha was born. During W.W. II the family joined Bill while he served a two-year stint in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in San Francisco. Then they all settled back in Pasadena where Kathie was born. Bills job at Winfield Ceramics soon took the family to West Los Angeles where the girls grew up. In (W.L.A.) Doris served her family as a housewife and mother. She was a committed Christian, active in church often singing solos and directing a choir at one of the churches she attended. Doris also taught junior high girls in Sunday school. She taught her own daughters to love the Lord and encouraged them to serve him. Later Doris worked for a Singer sewing store where she was an instructor for ten years.
Two years after Bill died, she moved to Beaverton, Oregon to be near to her daughter Kathie while Martha and her husband served as Missionaries in Russia. Doris was an active member at Village Baptist Church for the last 18years. At the age of ninety-one Doris moved to Christiana Adult Foster Care where she received loving care. At the age of ninety-three, on Wednesday morning, December 15, she slipped away in her sleep to be with her Lord. Now she is rejoicing! We are rejoicing with her!
-------------------------------------------------------
From an email of Kathryn Lent Lillie to me, dated 12/23/2010:
Hi, "Kathie here". I will answer your questions below and attach a
little biography that I just wrote for the church bulletin. Doris was living in
(Christiana Adult Foster Care) in Beaverton, Oregon, 97008. She lived
withme for 4 years but I had had my back fused from t-4 to t-11 so it got so
I could not lift her anymore. She is Buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery at
Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles, CA. beside Bill. She did not have
Alzheimer's, she had Progressive Dementia which comes from a series of
small strokes. It's very similar except that Alzheimer's comes from a specific
plaque which makes the difference. My husband Lee has Multiple Systems
Atrophy (MSA), a terminal disease. He is wheel chair bound and getting
very hard to care for too. It became too much to care for the both of them.
We sent Mom for burial first to Forest Lawn. We are not having a
funeral, we are having a Memorial Service. The Burial needed to be more expedient
and then Christmas fell in the way for people to come. The Memorial will be
a"Celebration of her Life" because she was a very devout Christian and
shewas very ready to go o Heaven. The Music people from her church were all
on a vacation because of all of the Christmas music also. I finally got a
wonderful Baritone from our church though. We have had some heavy rains
here in Oregon but we are used to it. We shipped Mom To Calif. and arranged
to have her buried but we did not go there. We don't know anybody in Los
Angeles anymore. We heard today that the internment was finalized. The
Memorial Service is here in Oregon where Mom had many friends. It will
be a packed service at her church. We loved her and will miss her very much.
She was well cared for though. Lee will be going to the same foster care
facility soon because it is such a wonderful place. I have been taking
care of him for about 7 years.I hope this answers your questions. It was nice to hear from somebody
from Texas.Love, Kathie
