Claiborne Co., TN Obituaries Vol. 1 1889-1939" by Mark Treadway
Carr, Swan - May 1, 1935
Swan Carr, 28, member of TVA Camp 25 at Sand Lick, Tenn., was instantly killed on Highway 25, three miles north of Tazewell, near the H. G. Parkey home. The car which he was driving, going north, sideswiped a CCC truck, and was knocked from the road, turning over several times. Carr suffered a broken neck and died almost instantly.
With him in the car at the time was the owner of the car, Howard Gose, who received only minor injuries, Charley Flack, 21, who suffered a broken leg and other serious injuries, and Hersal Garrett, of Wilder, Tenn., who was also hurt. All were members of Camp 25, except Gose, who recently had received his discharge.
It appears that the car was going at a rapid rate, and struck the body of the CCC truck, causing it to leave the road. The car was completely demolished, and the truck was badly damaged.
Flack was given first aid in a Middlesboro hospital, later to a government hospital at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Roberta Harmon Carr, two small sons, Benton and Randell; his mother, Mrs. Alice Carr, 3 brothers, Dr. Odra Carr and Frank, Knoxville and Fay of Tazewell, seven sisters, Mrs. Beulah Jennings, Mrs. Bonnie Harmon, of Monroe, Mich., Mrs. Lennie Clark, Mrs. Londie Mountain, Mrs. Dorsie Cupp, Misses Madge and Vannah Carr of Tazewell.
Funeral services were held at the Carr's Branch Church Monday at 2 p.m. by the Revs. Frank Hargraves and J. F. Caldwell. Interment in Carr Cemetery. A very impressive talk was made at the cemetery by Father Scanion, Chaplain.
