Mrs. Madie Johnson Barber dies; funeral services held December 13

Mrs. Madie Johnson Barber, 83, who resided at 1119 Powers Street in Greensboro, died at the St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham on Saturday, December 10. Funeral services were held at the Grennsboro Baptist Church Tuesday, December 13 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Denton Goodwin officiating. Cook and Spigener Mortuary of Demopolis was in charge of arrangements.
Surviving Mrs. Barber is her husband, Earle L. Barber of Greensboro; two sons, Earl Banks Johnson of Desoto, Mo., and Pharis Johnson, Jr., of Homewood; four sisters, Mrs. C.H. Petty of Pensacola, Fla; Mrs. Robert F. Wise of Keystone Heights, Fla; Mrs. Jessie Bremer of Augusta, Ga; Mrs. Cecil Busby of Robards, Ky; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were John C. Jay, Jr.; William C. Jay, Martin Faught, George Cothran, S.W.H. Williams, Jr., Edgar Torbert Jr., Albert -------, and Jimmy Stewart.

Saturday [10 Dec 1977]. A native of
Decatur, she had lived in Greensboro
for 55 years. She was a member of Greensboro Baptist
Church. Funeral was today at the church, with burial
at Oakwood Cem. in Greensboro. Cook & Speigner of
Demopolis directing. Survivors include her husband,
Eddie J. Barber; 2 sons, Earl Banks Johnson of Desota
[sic] MO and Pharis Johnson Jr. of Homewood [Jeff.
Co.]; and 4 sisters, Mrs. C.H. Petty of
Pensacola, FL; Mrs. Robert F. Wise of Keystone
Heights, FL; Mrs. Jessie Bremer of Augusta, GA; and
Mrs. Cecil Busby of Robards, KY.

Aubrey was in the first class to have caps and growns at the Sebree
High School in 1929..there is a picture but he is not identified, just his name listed.
Neither the Sacramento Bee nor the Sacramento Union ran a death notice or obituary.

Zona I. Snyder was born on 11 Oct 1913 in Bartlesville, OK. She married Aubrey Newton Petty on 26 Nov 1935 in Vanderburgh Co., IN.


John H. Pendleton was born on 5 May 1854. He died on 25 Dec 1881 in San Angelo. TX. The cause of death was killed in a gunfight. He was buried in Fairmount Cem., San Angelo, Tom Green Co., TX. He married Mottie Eleanor Tucker.

Now one of the dates are a mistake. Don't think they could have administration of a will or probate, on the 19th of Dec, if he died 25th of Dec??? Probate is more likely to be more believable.
