Pharis Johnson, aged 63, dies at his home hereCharles Andrew Pharis Johnson, a prominent Greensboro resident, died at his home on Powers Street here at 6:23 o'clock Monday morning July 30. Mr. Johnson, 63 years of age at the time of his death, had been in a serious condition for sevearl months.
Son the late Charles A. and Willie Kynard Johnson, he was born and reared in Greensboro and a lifelong resident of this community. For a number of years, he was a filling station operator, retiring several years ago. He was nominated as a justice of the peace for Beat 4 (Greensboro) in the Democractic primary of last May.
Mr. Johnson was a Mason and active in the affairs of the Baptist Church.
Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Badie Banks Johnson of Greensboro; two sons, Pharis Johnson, Jr. of Greensboro and Commander Earl Banks Johnson, U.S. Navy, of New London, Conn.; two sisters, Mrs. John C. Jay and Mrs. D.E. Ramey of Greensboro and two brothers, Inge Johnson of Birmingham and Walter Keener Johnson of Greensboro. He also leaves six grandchildren.
The funeral services were held at 5:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Greensboro Baptist Church.
The Rev. A.G. Higdon, pastor of the church, conducted the services, assisted by the Rev. Mabry Rhodes and the Rev. Milton Pope of Birmingham, former pastors of the church.

Mrs. Madie Johnson Barber dies; funeral services held December 13Mrs. Madie Johnson Barber, 83, who resided at 1119 Powers Street in Greensboro, died at the St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham on Saturday, December 10. Funeral services were held at the Grennsboro Baptist Church Tuesday, December 13 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Denton Goodwin officiating. Cook and Spigener Mortuary of Demopolis was in charge of arrangements.
