--I have no children; however, I do have a stepdaughter: Helen, the daughter of my husband Malcolm. She lives in Illinois, and has teenage children of her own. Malcolm and I still live at 429 Saint Paul St. in Burlington, VT.
I retired from the University of Vermont in the spring of 2010, but still do various kinds of teaching (unpaid) in Burlington. As for learning French: if it's convenient for you to take French in a local college, I think that's what I would recommend. I know a little about Rosetta Stone, and while it has its advantages, I think that a class would give you a more complete experience. (And don't worry about your Texas accent! We all bring different accents to new languages we are learning!) Right now I'm doing some English as a Second Language (ESL) teaching, one-on-one, for two women: one has Chinese and the other Russian as her native language. For both of them, it's a lot of work, but it's very interesting for me to see the process of learning English. (email Feb 2012 from Janet)
