FORT WORTH - James Delbert Evans, 79, retired owner of J.D. Evans Roofing & Sheet Metal Co., died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997, at a local hospital.

Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

James Evans was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Bennington, Okla. He was raised in Honey Grove, Texas, before moving to and remaining in the Fort Worth andArlington area. He was a roofingcontractor for 47 years in the Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington area.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Pearl Ellen Whitlock Evans.

Survivors: Sons, Jimmy Evans of Fort Worth and Ken Evans of Arlington; daughters, Linda Davidson of Fort Worth, Sharon Bordelon of New Orleans, La., Cyndi Estes of Arlington and Judy Williams of Hurst; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank Evans of Oklahoma and Archie Evans of Fort Worth; sisters, Bertie May Anderson of Texarkana and Wynona Langley of Benbrook; and numerous nieces and nephews.

WEST SPRINGFIELD - George A. Butler, 91, of 94 Boulevard Street, died suddenly Sunday in Mercy Hospital. Born in Longmeadow, he resided in West Springfield for most of his life. He was a retired machinist at Hamilton Standard and was a Navy Veteran of WWII who was involved in the D-Day Invasion. George was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He was predeceased by his wife Katherine (Kelley) Butler in 1989. He leaves two sons, George A. Butler of Mattapoisett and William K. Butler of Melbourne, FL and two daughters, Mary Lu C. Drew of Loudon, NH and Barbara A. Finney of Largo, FL. Affectionately known as "Grampa", he was the proud grandfather of 9 and great grandfather of 7. The funeral will be Friday at 9 a.m. from West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home followed by Mass in St. Thomas Church at 10 a.m. with burial in St. Mary Cemetery in Westfield. Calling hours are Thursday 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the W. Springfield Veteran's Council, Attn. Robert Farrell, Treasurer, 11 Ridgeview Road, W. Dorothy L. (Pease) Gallo, 75, of Thayer Road died Tuesday at Wing Memorial Hospital in Palmer. She was a registered nurse at the former Ludlow Hospital and the former Springfield Municipal Hospital. She worked previously in the actuary department of Massachusetts Mutual Insurance Co. and was a secretary for Chemical Corp. both in Springfield. Born in Springfield, she graduated from the former Technical High School in 1943. She entered the nurse training program at Springfield Technical Community College at the age of 50, and was licensed as a registered nurse. She was a well-known vocalist with several area dance bands in the 1940s and 1950s, and sang with a USO troupe which entertained at Air Force bases in the Azores and at Wheelus Field in Tripoli in 1951. She lived in Monson since 1956. She leaves her husband, Franklin W. Gallo; four sons, Randy Petersen of Hartford, Conn., Derek C. Gallo of Westfield, and Deane P. Gallo and Garry W. Gallo, both of Monson; a daughter, Donna Slozak of Monson; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted on Sunday afternoon at Glendale Methodist Church in Wilbraham. Lombard Funeral Home is in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oncology Department, Wing Memorial Hospital, 40 Wright St., Palmer, MA 01069.
