FITCHBURG - Catherine M. (Dumas) LeBlanc, 73, of 350 Water St., a longtime industrial worker and volunteer, died Wednesday in Leominster Hospital after an illness.

Her husband, Gerard LeBlanc, died in 1982. She leaves two sons, Richard LeBlanc of Baton Rouge, La., and Armand LeBlanc of Boston; a daughter, Geraldine Laws of Monahans, Texas; two sisters, Margie Lamothe of Leominster and Betty Phillips of Hopewell, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of Arthur and Mary (Sundstrom) Dumas.

Mrs. LeBlanc worked at Tucker Mfg. Co. for many years, retiring in 1972. She then volunteered for many years at the West Wind Club, a center for the handicapped.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Aubuchon-Moorcroft Funeral Home, 132 Woodland St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A calling hour is 9 to 10 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.

LEOMINSTER - Robert J. "Bob" Lamothe Sr., 78, of 422 North St., a machinist and youth baseball coach and manager for many years, was stricken and died Sunday at home.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Marjorie R. (Dumas) Lamothe; three sons, Ronald R. Lamothe of Lunenburg, James A. Lamothe of East Swanzey, N.H., and Robert J. Lamothe Jr. of Dorchester; a daughter, Charlene M. McFarland of Ashby; a sister, Winifred Tule of Pepperell; nine grandchildren, and a great-grandson. Born in Fitchburg, son of Alphe P. and Winifred (Delaney) Lamothe, he lived here most of his life.

He graduated in 1937 from Leominster High School, where he was a standout athlete in varsity football, basketball and baseball. He then played in the Leominster Lions semipro football team from 1940 to 1943.

Mr. Lamothe was a machinist at General Electric Co. in Fitchburg, where he worked 37 years. He retired in 1979. He was also a cook and bartender many years at Orin's Restaurant in Lunenburg.

Mr. Lamothe was a manager and coach in the early days of the Leominster Little League during the 1950s. He was then a manager and coach in the Leominster Babe Ruth League and was still managing a team 40 years later. He led his teams to 25 league championships and the Leominster Babe Ruth All-Star team to many state titles. He was instrumental in the purchasing and building of the Leominster Babe Ruth Field on Lancaster St.

Mr. Lamothe was a member of the Our Lady of the Lake Church in Whalom and was a coach many years for its Catholic Youth Council basketball team. He was a member of the General Electric Quarter-Century Club.

John McLaughton, president of the Leominster Babe Ruth League, said Mr. Lamothe "will be the most remembered coach in the history of Leominster Babe Ruth baseball. There are young men today who played 40 years ago for him who still ask for him today."

A funeral will be held Thursday from Smith-Mallahy Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Whalom. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. LEOMINSTER - Marjorie R. (Dumas) Lamothe, 83, of 422 North St., died Monday, Sept. 27, in University of Massachusetts Hospital, Worcester, after an illness. She was born Feb 5, 1916 in Fitchburg, the daughter of Joseph and Mary E. (Sundstom) Dumas and had lived most of her life in Leominster. She attended Fitchburg schools. Mrs. Lamothe worked at the former Foster Grant Co., before she retired. She worked as a stitcher for the Works Progress Administration before she married.
She enjoyed reading, floral gardening and sports.
She leaves three sons, Robert J. Lamothe Jr. of East Boston, Ronald R. Lamothe of Lunenburg and James A. Lamothe of East Swansey, N.H.; a daughter, Charlee M. McFaland of Ashby; a sister, Betty Phillips of Colonial Heights, VA; nine grandchildren, two great-grandsons and many nephew and nieces.
Her husband of 55 years Robert J. Lamothe Sr died in 1995. Two brothers, Edward Dumas and Arthur "Butt" Dumas and two sisters, Lillian Palmi and Catherine LeBlanc also died before her.
A funeral service will be helde Friday at 10 a.m. in the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg.
Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm
