A potter from Quebec Province or Lower Canada
Lived in the St Denis area and B oucherville during "Patriots" uprising between upper Canada(British) and lower Canada(French). He was a potter. During the uprising several kilns and homes we re burned. Did this expedite his exodous to the USA?His last child was born in Canada,Joshenine, in 1844 and his first born in the USA John (my Great Grandfat her)in Lansingburgh, N.Y. in 1846. So sometime between 1844 and 1846 the family immigrated to the USA. He continied his profession in the North Troy area (Lan singburgh). There is mention of his work in a book written by Warren F. Broderi ck titled Pottery Works page 109. I am uncertain of how they transported themse lves from St. Denis. It appears that it is direct route via the Richeleau to La ke Champlain, Lake George down the Hudson or via overland straight down through the adirondacks into the Hudson Valley. The name change from Renaud dit Deslau iers is also a mystery. Canadian church records indicate Deslauiers was used mo re prominently. Although some of Francois' brothers did use both Renaud and Des lauiers. The dit Deslauiers was a title or name given to French soldiers. The name can be traced back on this web site to his ancestors. See Jean Baptiste Renaud dit Deslauiers a soldier from France arriving in Quebec to fight the Iroquoi s Indian. For further details on the family immigration to the USA see Alien Declaration for 10/31/1852 Vol.3 Page 168; He and his wife brought his seven children to Lansingburgh.
