Florence - Funeral services for Artie H. Ray, 91, of Florence will be at 2 pm Wednesday. The Rev. Charles Goodnight and the Rev. Milton Pogue will officiate. Burial will be at Oive Oak Cemetery near Youngsport. Ray died Sunday at his home in Florence. He was a retired rancher and farmer.
Ray is survived by his wife Jewel McColllum Ray of Florence; a son Mack Ray of Del Rio; two daughters, Shirley Ray Watson of Jackson, Tenn., and Joy Ray Pusard of Del Rio ; two step-sons, Stacy Becknell of Big Spring, Texas and Neal Becknell of San Angelo; a stepdaughter, Nelda Boatright of San Angelo; a sister, Mrs. Vera Boone of Hillsboro; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Young Funeral Home of Florence is in charge of arrangements.

'Buck' Ray Services Set In Cove
Copperas Cove - Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday for former Bell County Sheriff and former Copperas Cove Police Chief. E.T. "Buck" Ray, 73, who died Monday night in a Temple hospital.
Services will be at the Copperas Cove Church of Christ, with burial in the Live Oak Cemetery near Youngsport.
Ray was born in Youngsport on Jan 2, 1905 and was reared in that community. He had been in law enforcement since 1924 when he became a patrolman with the Los Angeles Police Department in California. After two years, Ray was employed as a special officer for the Santa Fe Railroad.
During World War II, he was employed as a civilian guard at Corpus Christi. Camp Swift and San Marcos and helped maintain security at Naval and Army Air Corps stations. He was a Special Texas Ranger at Hamilton Dam, later a part of the Colorado River Authority and renamed Buchanan Dam.
Ray served two terms as sheriff of Bell County and was in business as a real estate broker for 13 years before coming out of "retirement" in 1964 to head the Copperas Cove Police Department. He retired from that post in January 1970 when he reached the age of 65.
Ray was a member of the Copperas Cove Church of Christ where he served as song leader for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Bertrice Ray of Copperas Cove; a son, Richard Dale Ray of Las Cruces, N.M.; two stepsons, Darwin M. Jackson of Copperas Cove and Donald Uselton of Houston; a brother, A.H. Ray of Florence; a sister, Vera Boone of Hillsboro; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Copperas Cove police officers. Central Texas peace officers will be honorary pallbearers. Palmer Funeral Home of Copperas Cove is in charge of arrangements.
Leta Dodd was born in 1907. She died in 1962. The cause of death was suicide. She was buried in Live Oak Cem., Youngsport, Bell Co., TX. She married Elbert Troy Ray on 13 Sep 1930 in Bell Co., TX.
