Frank D. Champion Dead
Troy Messenger, Saturday, March 30, 1907

Mr. Frank D. Champion died Thursday a.m. at 6:30 at his late residence on Elm street. Mr. Champion had been in feeble health for several years, and had been confined to his home for more than a year.

He was born near Griffin, Ga., on the 26th of December 1841 and came to Alabama at the age of 15 years with his sister and brother-in-law, J.P. Ogletree.

During his boyhood he was employed by Bailey Talbot as a clerk in his store in Troy. He was a gallant confederate soldier, having enlisted in the Quitman Guards, and on account of fidelity to duty, and gallantry displayed, he was promoted to a position on General Trimble's staff. He distinguished himself in that position and was mentioned in the official reports for gallantry on the field. He was married to Ms. Delilah A. Enzor, who with four children survive him. The children are: Mrs. J.S. Welch of Tuskegee, Ira Champion of Montgomery, Misses. D. and Chrissie Champion of Troy. Three brothers and three sisters survive. He was a member of Co. I., 15th Alabama Regiment and was perhaps the last of Gen. Trimble's staff to cross over. He was a member of the M.E. Church of this city.

He had filled the various relations of life, as son, husband, father, brother, friend, and filled them well. Who can do more. But he is gone! Another name is stricken from the ever lessening roll of veterans, and a solitary woman in the sunset of life and a lovely home are left to attest how sadly they will miss him. Yet in such a death there is really no cause for grief. His life work was done, and well done, wearied with life's duties and care, weary of suffering and wating, he lay down to rest. The body was intered at Oakwood cemetery Rev. S.A. Pilly assisted by Rev. Gavin Lynch and Welsh conducted services.

Delilah Ann Enzor was born on 16 Aug 1840 in AL. She died on 25 Oct 1910 in Troy, Pike Co., AL. She was buried on 26 Oct 1910 in Oakwood Cem, Troy, Pike Co., AL. She married Francis Douglass (Frank) Champion on 3 Feb 1867 in Pike Co., AL.
