Walter was quite resourceful. When his tractor needed an engine overhaul, he went to the store at Arkadelphia and bought a spool of every color sewing thread that was available. As he tore the engine down, he color-coded each part by tying a different color thread to each part and the place it belonged. The engine worked great when he finished.
Doris remembers that her Uncle Walter never walked, he always trotted. He would trot to and from Cullman-a 50+ mile round trip in the same day. He was a tough and tenacious man. When he became ill near his death, he crawled and pulled up his peanuts.
She remembers her Aunt Minnie as a hard worker who often worked from sun-up to sundown making sorgham syrup. I remember visiting their home as a child and being cautioned to not eat anything there because Aunt Minnie was not known for her housekeeping cleanliness. It seems the farm work had first priority.
