Jala B. Riggins, 78, died June 13, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle. Services were held today at 11 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R.D. Cline officiating. Burial followed at Fellowship Cemetery in Vernon, Ala. Mrs. Riggins was born in Bankston, Ala. on Feb. 10, 1926, to the late Walter and Jala Butler Moore. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church, and was employed as a nurse for Dr. Robert Dill for 25 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Finton Riggins.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Doty of Southaven, Miss.; son, Finton Riggins (Becky) of Rocky Mt., NC; grandchildren, Riley Riggins, Heath Riggins, Chase Riggins, Lars Riggins, Coby Riggins, and Bryan Tharrington, all of North Carolina, Jala Ann (Jann) Doty of Southaven, and Daniel Doty of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Brandon Tharrington and Jacob Riggins; sisters, Marie Pennington of Birmingham, Ala., Snow Atkinson of Tampa, Fla., and Dorothy Nell Pugh of Birmingham; and brother, Willard Moore of Sylacauga, Ala.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Doty, Lars Riggins, Bryan Tharrington, John Parker, Gene Guyton, and Charlie Upton. Honorary pallbearers will be A.J. Price, Dr. Robert Dill, Dr. James Woodard, R.C. Hagood, James Lancaster, Archie Folk, and Mike Landrum.
