Charles Hampton and Verne Foudray lived for many years in Sumner County. He was born July 14, 1871 in Fleming County, Kentucky to William Elbert and Mary Ann Edens Foudray, and moved to Kansas with them in 1887. Alice Laverne Burnett Foudray was born October 23, 1874 in Iowa to Thomas B. and Elizabeth Lightfoot Burnett who moved to Sumner County in 1876. She married Foudray January 16, 1896 at the home of her grandparents Daniel and Susannah Lightfoot in Mulvane, Kansas. They were the parents of two daughters, Lois Genevieve born July 15, 1896 and Dorothy Helen Mayme born January 19, 1907, near Mulvane.They made their first home on a farm near Mulvane later moving to Butler County, Honeywell, and Blackwell, Oklahoma and following such occupations as digging and fixing wells, flour mill operator and restaurant owner. He spent several years with a bridge construction crew of the Santa Fe railroad. In 1924 they sold the restaurant they had been running in Mulvane and returned to the farm southeast of Mulvane. Foudray died June 13, 1940. Verne was a small, dark eyed bundle of energy and continued living on the farm for several years tending her garden and chickens. At the time of her death November 10, 1964 she was making her home with her daughter Lois Storey in Mulvane.

Helen Elizabeth Pressley Steger, 88, died Monday, March 11, 2002, in her home and in the company of family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday in The Drawing Room of Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Burial: Private interment in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.Graduating from W.C. Stripling High School and Hardin-Simmons College, she pursued further studies at TCU and The School of Music at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She was a lifelong member of Travis Ave. Baptist Church, where she was a choir member and Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of The Woman's Club and The Medical Auxiliary. She dedicated her life to many varied activities. For 14 years she was a teachers' assistant and substitute teacher for the Fort Worth ISD, she sang for War Bond Babies, was a member of The Baptist Hour Choir, and performed in country wide concerts as a member of The Ladies Quartet at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Helen was a consumate and devoted musician, an artist at the organ and piano keyboards and for a lifetime shared her talents and a rich contralto voice with all whom she touched, thinking of music as a wonderous magic link with God - music that knows no country, race, or creed to each given according to his need.
Daughter of the late Thomas Marion Steger and Paralee Brown Steger, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathryn Pressley Hawes, and her husband, Dr. Joseph H. Steger.
Survivors: Son, Joseph Douglas Steger; daughter, Sally Kathryn Steger; grandson, Joseph Douglas Steger; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Rebekah Steger.
